Feliz Navidad! - December 18, 2017

Good day! This last week has been full of surprises. Here's a couple fun stories to share what missionary work is like-
So we got this self referral from mormon.org and it was like "she is so ready to receive the gospel! She's requested a visit from the missionaries" and all this good stuff. So we went to the address and she wasn't there, it was a young couple (but we did get a return appointment) and she had a phone number on there so we've been calling it and she's never picked up. FINALLY, on like Saturday, we called (after calling a texting SEVERAL times) and someone picks up and says "hello" and I knew it wasn't here and this person obviously did not speak spanish. But I go "hello! Is Alicia there?" And this lady just starts yelling and goes "NO! THERE IS NO ALICIA HERE! YOU GUYS CALL EVERY COUPLE SECONDS AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHO THAT IS! DON'T CALL ME EVER AGAIN. IF YOU DO I'LL GET YOU FOR HARRASSMENT" and I was just like πŸ™ƒ "ok thank you have a nice day!" And I SHOULD have said "if you didn't want us to call you should've just texted and said you weren't alicia" but I bit my tongue. What nice people :)
Other fun story. We got a referral from the English elders that there was a house with 2 unbaptized children so we have been trying to contact them. They talked to the dad and he was nice (but didn't speak very much english) but said they could come back. So we've knocked there over the last couple weeks and no one answers. We see them on Saturday driving up in their car and were like FINALLY so we go and it's the grandpa and he goes (in spanish) "wow! I'm so glad that I finally saw you!" And we were like yeeaaahh and he goes "I have a favor. Please don't come back" πŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒπŸ™ƒ hahahaha. That was fun. He said "I work in the nights and you always wake me up when I'm sleeping in the day with your knocking. Please don't knock here any more. I'm catholic" woo! And both these happened within about 5 minutes. We told the Spanish elders we share the area with and they said "whaaat? Sisters get rejected?" Yes, the sad truth. Bahaha. It was funny though
Ok. So the Rodriguez family has decided to go to the English ward, but good thing they don't speak it so we are the only ones who can teach them! Woo! Haha they're so great. We taught them the plan of salvation on Monday and they totally understood everything and have super good questions. We talked about baptism and their questions and stuff after. Roberto has been reading the book of Mormon a TON. He has the gospel library app and listens to it in the car and he reads it at work if he has a break and he's basically a DREAM investigator. For example. Deya was saying how she wasn't really sure about baptism and he goes "it's because you're not putting in the work! You need to have more faith! Here. Let's look at this scripture I read in alma the other day" and pulls out this RANDOM SCRIPTURE FROM ALMA and hermana bliss and I were both just like :0
Here's the scripture
Alma 22:16 "But Aaron said unto him: If thou desirest this thing, if thou wilt bow down before God, yea, if thou wilt repent of all thy sins, and will bow down before God, and call on his name in faith, believing that ye shall receive, then shalt thou receive the hope which thou desirest."
Literally I didn't even know this scripture existed. I was AMAZED. He also was like "deya, Satan is trying to stop you from reading the book of Mormon. He wants you to get on Facebook and watch tv and not read it. He does it to me. He's trying to get me but we just have to stop him" and we did NOT teach him that. He just KNOWSSSS.
They also both said that they both feel the spirit a lot when we teach and when they go to church. Roberto basically said "so when can we get baptized? What do i have to do?" So that was amazing. We went yesterday during second hour and taught him lesson 3 at church (deya was sick so she wasn't there) and when we asked about baptism and the doctrine of Christ he just said "I feel like this is the path I need to take" YEAH OK LET'S DO IT. We're working for December 30th. Its just a struggle of teaching him all the lessons in that time. IF not, January 6.
We had our ward Christmas party on Friday. It was dinner and a talent show. Some of the men in the ward sang "noche de luz" and recruited me to be their pianist. Woo! All those years of lessons paying off. HERMANA bliss and I were also in a play with some relief society women hahaha. Its called "un invitado especial" and it's the one where this woman dreams that Jesus is gonna come visit her so she's waiting all day and 3 people knock on the door who need help and she doesn't because she is waiting for him and at the end of the day she's like WHY DIDN'T YOU COME?? it was super high class. We had a lot of investigators there. The Lopez family, feliciana and her 2 kids, Yuritzi and her daughter, and the de la peΓ±a family. Woo!!
Ok last thing. I'm not saying that David archuleta is coming to our ward to sing this sunday..... but it's a possibility. No joke. So his mom like lives in our ward boundaries so if he ever feels like coming to a Spanish ward he comes to Ellison Park. And he came the Sunday before I got here. AND in ward council Obispo pavon was like "we are going to have someone sing a solo" and wouldn't tell us who it was. SO. We are convinced he's coming. PLSSSS. I'm a huge fan. Never was before the mish, but I've heard "glorious" enough times to be considered one of his biggest fans.
Well, that's it for this week folks. have a good christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!!! remember to #lighttheworld!!
