hello!
happy thanksgiving! this week was a good one. president jaggi told us that wednesday, friday, and saturday are statistically the best days to find new investigators because everyone's home because of thanksgiving! so we spent a lot of time this week finding. and we found some good people! in this mission one of the key indicators they count is "oyms". it means "open your mouth", just like when youre outside and see someone walking and go up and talk to them. kind of funny that they have to count it here because thats something we did in puerto rico without even thinking about it or counting it... haha. but anyways, for spanish the numbers for that usually arent too high because its not the most effective way to find, because there's not too many hispanics walking around layton all the time. but this week we set a new RECORD of OYMs for us because we were just talking to everyone and spending so much time walking around tracting. it was so fun!
on wednesday, the bishop called us and said they had an extra turkey (the ward was giving thanksgiving dinners to people who couldn't afford it) and asked if we knew of anyone that would want it. so we said one of our potential investigators, feliciana, and her family, and went over with a member of the bishopric to give it to her that night. she was so excited! we had talked to her a couple times before, but never gotten into her house to teach her a real lesson. but she let us in and we got to teach her the restoration and now she has a baptismal date in december! and on sunday she came to church! and we walked into gospel principles and guess what the lesson was on.... the law of chastity. hahaha. good thing she seemed to agree with all of it and not feel too awkward.
on thursday, we went over to a members house to rake leaves in the morning. we were there for a couple hours and then we went over to our first dinner! it was with the martinez family from guatemala, and they had a ton of people over. some other members of the ward, some relatives from guatemala, and some other people. the dinner was SO GOOD. a classic thanksgiving dinner. with turkey AND carne. mmmm. and PIE!!! with some flan, of course. we then went to dinner at another member's house, a convert of about a year. she has a son who's not a member and theres a family living in her basement who was on vacation except the husband, who is a recent convert. so we had dinner with the three of them and we ate AGAIN! i was sooooo full when it was over i was dying. it was all delicious though. a successful thanksgiving!
saturday, we had dinner at a venezuelan family's house and we had arepas and they were SOOO GOOOOD. i would suggest them. just thought id throw that out there.
the rodriguez's went to church again last week... to the english ward! :----) haha we're having a FHE tonight with them and their fam who's in the ellison park ward though. should be good! we're trying to get them to come to the ellison park ward because they would be able to understand better.... but whats important is that they're learning and going! so we'll see what happens with this. haha. the EP ward could use a family like them.
espero que todos esten bien y tengan una buena semana!
con amor
